Description :

Dark brown seaweed, brushy with branches whiplike and with few secondary branches, often longer than the main stem. Length can be more than 60 cm.



Habitat :

Found in the lower intertidal to the beginnning of the subtidal levels.


Distribution :

This alga has a widespread distribution and is found in both hemispheres, although it seems more prevalent in the northern hemisphere.

In the North Atlantic, it is present in the Arctic to the state of Connecticut.
